Preschool (Birth – K4)
Hundreds of babies and preschoolers attend a variety of programs at Brushy Creek each week. We see our purpose as providing a safe, loving, child-centered environment that lays the seeds of faith that will grow into a loving relationship with God. At the right you can see a sampling of the programs we provide for Preschoolers. You can check in at the Welcome Center and they will show you the room your child will be in and introduce you to the teachers. Our Philosophy
Preschoolers learn actively. The most effective learning environment is one that is child-centered and age-appropriate. We are not baby-sitting. Everyone who spends time with a preschooler is teaching something. We are passing on unspoken values by our attitudes and actions. All the while, we are speaking simple truths in our conversation with them, keying in on the words “God,” “Jesus,” and “love.” Active learning takes place in play areas including Art, Blocks, Books/Puzzles, Home Living, Music, and Nature. As a teaching guide, we primarily use literature published by Desiring God Ministries.
Children and Salvation
Preschoolers are concrete. While feelings are very real and memorable, young children do not understand the abstract concepts and realities that exist and fill the adult world. While faith to trust Christ is simple and childlike, the concepts associated with the articulation and understanding of the gospel and salvation are, at best, intangible for a preschooler's concrete mind. Recognizing that God's grace is available to all and it is His work alone, we must not set age limits on when a child may come to salvation. Likewise, we should not pressure a child with expectations before he is able to meet them.
Our Objectives
In view of this position, we teach with these objectives in mind:
- Preschoolers will associate God and church with happy feelings.
- Each preschooler will believe that God loves them and all people.
- Preschoolers will know that Jesus was born, grew, had a family, and was a special person.
- Preschoolers will know that the Bible is a special book which tells us about God and Jesus.
- Preschoolers will associate home and family with feelings of security and love.
- Each preschooler will show confidence in his self-worth.
- Preschoolers will demonstrate consideration and respect toward others' feelings, needs and rights.
- Preschoolers will demonstrate improved ability to solve problems, share, and express emotions.
- Preschoolers will recognize the natural world as God's creation and His expression of love towards people.
Amen!
